چکیده

Background. Adult scoliosis is still a difficult and unsolved problem. The main reason for patients with this type of scoliosis to seek medical attention is spinal pain, along with the desire to improve the personal appearance. Clinically and radiologically the progression of the deformity is observed in the majority of patients. We present here our own experience with the surgical treatment of these patients. Material and method. The treatment outcome is analyzed in a group of 23 patients with adult scoliosis, operated between 1994 and 2003. Results and conclusions. The average duration of surgery was 190 min, with intraoperative blood loss of 430 ml. surgical correction of the deformation averaged 57%. Postoperative spinal pain lasted for 3 months in 3 patients. Corrective surgery in adult scoliosis should stop the progression of curvature and prevent the growth of degenerative changes and attendant spinal pain.
